FOLKLIFE is the award-winning, semi-annual, slow living lifestyle magazine featuring folks who live close to the earth, with intention, and creativity, all with a goal to slow the FOLK down.

Evoking fine craftership with its minimalist design, matte aesthetic, poetic editorial, and vibrant photography, the 128-page beauty FOLKLIFE honours art and agriculture, business and creativity, food and farming, and dwellings and nature. Each issue explores one theme through engaging interviews, stories, photographs, recipes, and artwork, celebrating and connecting those who live simply and sustainably.
FOLKLIFE is published by settlers on the traditional, unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples. We acknowledge the ongoing effects of systemic colonialism and genocide, such as the Kuper Island Indian Residential School, which operated from 1889 to 1975, and we recognize our responsibility in truth and reconciliation.
As we celebrate the beauty of this area, we extend our gratitude to the Indigenous Peoples of this territory, who have been and continue to be in honourable relationship with these lands, waters, and kin since time immemorial.

We're a bunch of FOLKLIFERS living on the Gulf Islands on the west coast of Canada. We live, love, swim, build, work, grow, create, play, and eat the FOLKLIFE lifestyle. It's delicious. We're made up of entrepreneurs, writers, designers, editors, photographers, weirdos, and lovely people who live with passion and intention, close to the earth, and with an aim to connect and inspire. FOLKLIFE is a labour of love and we hope your hearts are open.

Volume 1 through 9 are now out—all calling from a magazine stand somewhere near you. You can find a growing list of our stockists here. Not in your neighbourhood? We can fix that. Browse the subscription offers in our online Shop, place your order, and we’ll get right on it.
We recommend print editions ‘cause that’s what FOLKLIFE is all about. It costs $20 to delve into the unknown (the cost of a 20-minute head massage at your local farmers' market)! Be a bit adventurous and give us a try when we all need it most. As with many new start-ups (and definitely with print publishing), the big costs come at the beginning, so your valued subscription is a win-win! You will be getting something fabulous delivered straight to your door, while supporting a new endeavour.
Of course you don’t have to jump straight into the deeper end. There are other options. You can wade into our Instagram to test the waters first or—now that Volume 1 through 9 are afloat—order up a digital edition (or two or four) to get in the swim of things. You’ll be happy that you did.
